How Much Training Do You Need to Get Started with Smart Denture Conversions?
How much training does it take to become proficient at doing a Smart Denture Conversion, and who should get trained?
Smart Denture Conversions enables clinicians to create a provisional prosthetic for all-on-x procedures in as little as 30 minutes, delivering a stronger prosthetic with more predictable results. However, reaching that 30-minute mark requires some training. In this post, we address some of the most common questions about training for Smart Denture Conversions to help you get started with our innovative approach.
Key Highlights (TL;DR)
- We recommend a few hours of training on Smart Denture Conversions to feel comfortable with the product, preferably with a trainer.
- We've found most Smart Denture Conversion users feel fully confident and comfortable with the product after about 5 arches.
- We offer a Smart Denture Conversions video course, as well as virtual and in-person training options to help customers get up-to-speed with Smart Denture Conversions as quickly as possible.
How Much Training Do You Need to Get Started with Smart Denture Conversions?
We recommend dedicating at least a few hours to get comfortable with Smart Denture Conversions. While you won’t be producing a provisional prosthetic in just 30 minutes after a couple of hours of training, this minimal time investment will put you leaps and bounds ahead of traditional methods when creating provisional prosthetics for all-on-x procedures.
As the name implies, Smart Denture Conversions offers a more efficient way to convert a denture. However, it does require a shift in thinking, especially if you're used to traditional methods. Learning this smarter approach takes at least a minimal amount of training with the product.
Can't I Figure It Out On My Own?
If you're an experienced or savvy clinician, you probably can. How long that will take is another question and you don’t want to be learning the hard way while working with a patient. Our happiest customers are those who have taken even a minimal amount of training. At the very least, we strongly recommend watching our training videos and following the steps in our technique manual before using Smart Denture Conversions with a patient.
How Long Until I’m Proficient at Smart Denture Conversions?
Most clinicians feel confident with Smart Denture Conversions after completing about 5 arches. Our initial training gets clinicians up to speed quickly, but nothing beats real-world experience. After about five arches, many clinicians can create provisional prosthetics in closer to 30 minutes.
What if I'm Already Proficient with Other Methods?
Your experience will certainly help, but Smart Denture Conversions is a unique approach that requires a shift in thinking. With some initial training, most clinicians find that after completing about five arches, they fully grasp the differences in our approach and feel completely comfortable with the Smart Denture Conversions product and workflow.
Do I Need to Purchase Additional Tools?
For most dental offices, probably not. The only tool we strongly recommend—one that some offices may not have—is a high-quality laboratory handpiece. Specifically, you’ll need a handpiece that maintains its torque. Our own Dr. Brandon Kofford discusses this in the first minute of the video below.
What Are My Training Options?
We offer several training options for Smart Denture Conversions, including training videos, as well as virtual and in-person training options.
You can watch our Smart Denture Conversions Training Videos right now for free, to familiarize yourself with our system. The videos take you through our entire Technique Manual, (which you can download for free), and even includes some optional steps, as well as tips, tricks, and troubleshooting.
For more individualized training, we recommend investing in the Smart Denture Conversions Training Kit. This kit includes everything you need to get up and running, plus 2 hours of virtual training with a Smart On X trainer. During this hands-on session, you'll work on a stone model while our trainer guides you through the process. After completing your 2-hour virtual training, you’ll still have a Premium Starter Kit to help you perform a Smart Denture Conversion at your next surgery.
We also offer In-Person Training, available for individuals or entire offices. In-person training is ideal for those who want direct guidance during an actual surgery. We recommend starting on a stone model before transitioning to live patients. In-person sessions can range from 2 hours to 2 full days (16 hours).
Additionally, our training partners frequently teach Smart Denture Conversions at events around the country. You can view upcoming sessions on our Trainings & Events page.
